ABL Partner & Business Opportunities
The Agricultural Biotechnology Laboratory (ABL) assists university scientists, business and government with developing new products from the research laboratory to commercialization. It is a division of the LSU Agricultural Center charged with the creation and development of ideas and products for the enhanced economic growth of agricultural enterprises. ABL has dual goals of conducting leading-edge research and the development of plant and animal biotechnology projects with commercial potential for Louisiana companies.
ABL provides much-needed laboratory space for start-up companies within its 5,100 square-foot facility on South Stadium Drive. Companies concentrating on production of biotechnology related products will be assisted with new product development, technical problems, and technology transfer and intellectual property issues. We cooperate with LSU AgCenter Intellectual Property Office and Louisiana Business & Technology Center, which provide their expertise in creating business plans, federal grant applications, and technology transfer.
The ABL is an ideal partner for companies sponsoring innovative research and looking for industry-university collaboration. We offer considerable animal and plant transformation expertise, also equipment and facilities for co-operative development of transgenic plants and animals in the commercial marketplace. Specific research areas may include development of disease and pest resistance, and incorporation of desired traits to enhance commercial value of modified plants and animals. In addition, our scientists are working on turning plants into factories to produce proteins for pharmaceutical and industrial use. Proteins are already extensively used in the food and paper industries. The use of proteins is growing in pharmaceutical, bioremediation, cosmetic, biocatalysts, and biosensor industries. We are looking for sponsors who would like to invest in the development and production of pharmaceutical compounds in many Louisiana crops.
